Frankfort Elks Angel Tree Christmas Party Brings Christmas to Kids

Posted by Elks 530 | Posted in Lodge News | Posted on 19-12-2018

This past weekend, our Frankfort Lodge held its annual Angel Tree Christmas Party. Needy kids from around the community were treated to a meal of pizza and treats. After everyone had eaten, Santa Claus came to visit, and brought along Mrs. Claus and Rudolph as well!

Each child received a stocking full of treats, and was able to open a gift during the party. They each took home a stack of additional gifts as well.

As you can see above, Santa was a big hit with the kids. Many thanks to all of the members who shopped for gifts, wrapped gifts, and helped plan and put on the party. We’d also like to extend a special thanks to everyone who purchased an Angel Tree ornament to help fund the party.

You can check out all the pictures from the party in the gallery below.

Frankfort Elks Initiate 22 New Members

Posted by Elks 530 | Posted in Lodge News | Posted on 05-12-2018

Our Frankfort Elks Lodge has been growing of late. In fact, we led all Kentucky lodges in membership growth for the 2017-18 year. We’re looking to keep the momentum going this year, and this week, we made a big step in that direction by initiating 22 new members into the lodge.

This is one of the largest initiations we’ve held at our lodge in many years, and we’re excited to welcome all of our new Elk brothers and sisters. Our new members are pictured above. If you see them around the lodge, make sure you welcome them!

Frankfort Elks Deliver Thanksgiving to Shut-In Seniors

Just as we do every year, our Frankfort Lodge took time to deliver some holiday cheer to shut-in seniors in our community. This year, eight seniors received not only two meals for Thanksgiving, but also a $50 Wal-Mart gift card to help these folks purchase necessities.

The Senior Activity Center was closed Thanksgiving Day and the day after, thus the need to deliver two meals to insure these seniors have enough food for the long weekend. The Elks ask that our community remember all of our seniors during the upcoming holidays.

Frankfort Elks Donate Winter Supplies and Clothing to the Lexington VA

Recently, the Frankfort Elks Lodge donated 20 backpacks filled with supplies to the Lexington VA Center on Leestown Road. Funded by a grant from the Elks National Foundation, the backpacks contain emergency first aid kits, hygiene kits, ponchos, a Mylar blanket, socks, gloves, sock hats, flashlight, food gift card, chap stick, and other useful items. The backpacks will be given to the homeless veterans that come into the clothing room at the VA for clothes. The Elks also donated several gently used clothing items to help keep the clothing room stocked as winter approaches.

The Elks have pledged that “So long as there are veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them.” These donations represent a part of Frankfort Lodge’s commitment to fulfilling that pledge.

Check Out Frankfort Lodge-Sponsored Scholarship Winner David Ma in this New Video

The Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship is a chance for graduating seniors to win up to a $50,000 four-year scholarship to aid with the cost of a college education. Last year, Frankfort Lodge sponsored David Ma, a senior graduating from Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in Lexington, as one of its candidates for this scholarship. David was selected among the 20 finalists that traveled to Chicago earlier this year, and ended up as the National Runner-Up, winning a $40,000 four-tear scholarship.

Recently, the Elks National Foundation released a new video featuring David, who is now attending Harvard University. You can check it out above.

If you’re a member of the Class of 2019, or know someone who is, you can find all the information on this year’s scholarship, as well as the online application, over on Elks.org.
