It’s basketball season, and that means it’s once again time for Hoop Shoot! The local Frankfort shoot will be held at the Franklin Co. High School gym this Sunday, January 11.

Hoop Shoot is the annual Elks free-throw competition that lets boys and girls from 8 to 13 years of age compete for a chance to represent their community at the National Hoop Shoot in Springfield, Mass., home of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. At the conclusion of the National Shoot, one boy and one girl from each age group will win a national title and will have their names permanently inscribed at the Basketball Hall of Fame.

For the local shoot this year, we will use the following schedule:

  • Boys and girls 8-9 year olds will shoot at 1:00 PM
  • 10-11 year olds will shoot at 2:00
  • 12-13 year olds will shoot at 3:00

Contestants will be assigned an age-group based on the age that they will be on April 1, 2015. Contestants must be 8 years old by April 1, 2015, to participate. Please bring a copy of the shooter’s birth certificate, without it they may not be able to advance to the next level.

If you have any questions about the Hoop Shoot, or you want to volunteer, please contact our Local Hoop Shoot Director, Jerry Harley, at (502) 803-6332. Volunteers need to be at the gym by 12:15. We welcome any new volunteers to the program, but please contact Jerry to ensure that proper attire is worn the day of the contest.

Best of luck to all our shooters in this year’s contest!
